Introduction to the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation

The School of Electrical Engineering and Automation was established in 1946. After more than seventy years of development, it has become a key force and important base for talent cultivation, scientific research, and social services at the university.

The school boasts a first-class faculty. Currently, there are 197 staff members, including 149 full-time teachers. Among them, 42 hold senior professional titles, 87 hold associate senior professional titles, and 134 have doctoral degrees. The faculty includes 1 participant in the national high-level talent program, 5 participants in the national young talent program, 2 participants in the provincial and ministerial-level high-level talent program, 1 participant in the provincial and ministerial-level young talent program, 2 Anhui provincial teaching masters, and 2 newcomers to the Anhui provincial education scene. Renowned experts such as Tianyou Chai, Guangyi Liu, Leo Lorenz, Udaya K. Madawala, Jiangang Li, and Zhe Chen serve as consultants and professors in the school. The teacher team of "Science and Technology of Renewable Energy Power Systems" has been selected as the second batch of the "National University Huang Danian-Style Teaching Team".

The school offers five undergraduate programs: Electrical Engineering and Automation, Automation, Intelligent Grid Information Engineering, Robot Engineering, and Electrical Engineering and Intelligent Control. It has the first-level academic doctoral degree authorization point in Electrical Engineering, covering five second-level disciplines, including Power Electronics and Power Transmission, Power Systems and Automation, Motor and Electric Appliance, High Voltage and Insulation Technology, and Electrical Engineering Theory and New Technology. Additionally, it has the first-level academic doctoral degree authorization point in Control Science and Engineering, covering three second-level disciplines: Control Theory and Control Engineering, Detection Technology and Automation Devices, and Pattern Recognition and Intelligent Systems. The school also has first-level academic master's degree authorization points in Electrical Engineering and Control Science and Engineering, covering the same second-level disciplines as the doctoral programs. Furthermore, it has a doctoral degree authorization point in Energy and Power Engineering and master's degree authorization points in Electrical Engineering and Control Engineering. The discipline of Power Electronics and Power Transmission is a national key discipline and has a postdoctoral mobile station in Electrical Engineering.

There are 4 national research bases, 10 provincial and ministerial-level research bases, and 1 national discipline innovation and intelligence introduction base in the school. The national research bases include the National Key Laboratory for High-Efficiency and High-Quality Conversion of Electrical Energy, the Key Laboratory for Monitoring, Warning, and Safety Protection of National Energy Lightning Disasters, the Key Laboratory of Photovoltaic Energy Storage Conversion Technology and Equipment, and the National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Renewable Energy Grid Connection Technology. Provincial and ministerial-level research bases include the Ministry of Education Photovoltaic System Engineering Research Center, Anhui Province Variable Frequency Motor and Control System Engineering Technology Research Center, Industrial Automation Anhui Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center, Anhui Province Key Laboratory for New Energy Utilization and Energy Conservation, Anhui Province Key Laboratory for Aircraft Lightning Protection, Aviation Science Key Laboratory for Strong Electromagnetic Environment Protection Technology, 2011 Collaborative Innovation Center for Electric Vehicles and Distributed Energy, Anhui Province Key Laboratory for Renewable Energy Utilization and Industrial Energy Conservation Engineering, Anhui Province Jointly Built Discipline Key Laboratory for Intelligent Operation and Inspection of High-Voltage Electrical Equipment, and Anhui Province Jointly Built Discipline Key Laboratory for High-Reliability Distribution Technology. The national discipline innovation and intelligence introduction base is the "111 Plan" for the discipline innovation and intelligence introduction of Renewable Energy Grid-connected Power Generation Science and Technology. In addition, the school also has a national-level "Renewable Energy Utilization and Electrical Control" experimental teaching demonstration center, a provincial-level electrical and electronic experimental teaching demonstration center, a school-level power system and automation experimental teaching demonstration center, and a school-level automation experimental teaching demonstration center.

The school closely follows the international frontier in discipline development and scientific research. It was one of the earliest institutions in China to conduct research on renewable energy photovoltaic system generation. In various research areas such as new energy generation and energy internet, renewable energy grid connection, aircraft lightning protection and high-voltage insulation, motor system integrated design and control, advanced control of intelligent systems and automated production lines, new generation intelligent instruments and detection technology, information-physical system identification and control, complex electrical system reconstruction and health assurance, and new thin-film solar cells, the school has undertaken various national major and key projects, gaining significant influence both domestically and internationally. Since the 13th Five-Year Plan, the school has taken the lead in undertaking 1 National Major Scientific Instrument Development Project, 9 National Key Research and Development Projects, 6 Key Projects of The National Natural Science Foundation of China, and more than 100 other National Natural Science Foundation projects. Additionally, it has undertaken 7 provincial major and key projects. The school has received 3 second prizes for national scientific and technological progress, more than 20 first and second prizes for provincial and ministerial-level scientific and technological progress, and 3 China Patent Excellence Awards.

The school has established a comprehensive system for innovation and entrepreneurship education for university students. Leveraging open laboratories, internship and training bases, discipline competition platforms, and research platforms, various discipline competitions and innovation and entrepreneurship activities are organized for undergraduate students. In the past three years, over 210 projects have been approved for national and provincial-level innovation and entrepreneurship training programs. Students have been encouraged to participate in various national competitions such as the "Internet+" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, and the "Challenge Cup" National College Students Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition. These competitions are included in the rankings of national ordinary university student competitions. Through these efforts, students have received over 40 national and provincial-level awards, including first prizes. The innovation and entrepreneurial capabilities of students have steadily improved, reflecting their ability to innovate and apply that innovation to entrepreneurship. Additionally, in national competitions such as the National College Students Electronic Design Competition (University Rankings Competition) and the international iCAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for College Students (University Rankings Competition), students from our school have consistently achieved outstanding results each year.

Adhering to the motto of "Virtue, Diligence, Truth, and Innovation," the school focuses on cultivating students' ideological education, fostering an innovative spirit, and enhancing research and practical abilities. Graduates are well-received in society, with the undergraduate average employment rate exceeding 95% in the past three years. More than 60% of graduates enter state-owned large and medium-sized enterprises or industry-leading units related to their majors. The school has produced outstanding alumni who have made significant contributions to various fields, including Weijiang Chen, Deputy Chief Engineer of State Grid Corporation of China; Jizhe Ning, Vice Chairman of the Economic Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Yuefeng Ni, Secretary of the Hebei Provincial Party Committee; Xu Liqun, Vice Chairman of the Social and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference; Jingzhen Liu, Chairman and Party Secretary of China National Pharmaceutical Group Corporation; and Renxian Cao, Chairman of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd.
