The advanced training course on "Design and Application of Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Power Supplies," organized by the China Power Supply Society and hosted by Hefei University of Technology, was successfully held at the Academic Conference Center on Tunxi Road Campus from July 22nd to 23rd, 2023.

Since 2014, the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation at Hefei University of Technology has hosted a series of training courses on photovoltaic and energy storage systems, organized by the China Power Supply Society and the New Energy Power Conversion Technology Professional Committee of the China Power Supply Society. This was the eighth edition of the training course, which has gained wide recognition in the industry. Building on the success of previous sessions, this training course comprehensively interpreted new technologies and trends from the perspective of current developments in photovoltaics, energy storage, and other new energy technologies, aiming to promote the development of the photovoltaic and energy storage industry. The event attracted more than ninety scholars from China and abroad, and eight teachers delivered technical lectures.

Dr. Jun Xu, the Deputy Director of the Central Research Institute of Sungrow Power Supply Co., Ltd., delivered a lecture titled "Current Status and Development Trends of the Photovoltaic and Energy Storage Industry." Dr. Xu introduced the global development status and trends of new energy, combined with the current situation of Sungrow, and discussed the research status, application scenarios, and future development potential of photovoltaic energy storage systems, flexible renewable energy hydrogen production systems, and 35kV medium-voltage direct-mounted photovoltaic inverters.

Mr. Chang Liu from the team of Professor Xu Cai at Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered a lecture on "High-Voltage Large-Capacity Battery Energy Storage Integration Technology." Mr. Liu discussed the evolution of power electronic topologies for high-voltage large-capacity energy storage integration, providing detailed insights into system control, detection, parameter design methods, and gradually expanding to the integrated integration and safe operation control of energy storage self-synchronized voltage sources and SVG. Finally, he showcased the current application status of high-voltage large-capacity energy storage through some application projects.

Dr. Bo Zhao from State Grid Zhejiang Electric Power Co., Ltd. delivered a course titled "Key Technologies and Engineering Applications of Renewable Energy-based Power-to-Hydrogen." Dr. Zhao first introduced the advantages and characteristics of hydrogen energy, clarified its future position, and then expanded to the development of key hydrogen production technologies. He also discussed the layout of hydrogen energy in Zhejiang Electric Power Company and the work completed so far, providing some insights into the future development of hydrogen energy in China.

Dr. Guanghui Li from China Electric Power Research Institute delivered a lecture on "Wideband Oscillation Analysis and Suppression Technology for New Energy Grid-Connected Systems." Dr. Li discussed the engineering background of the course, citing frequent new energy grid oscillation accidents both domestically and internationally. He then analyzed the mechanism of grid oscillation through small-signal modeling of various converters and suppressed the grid oscillation of new energy through impedance reshaping. Finally, Dr. Li pointed out that various units in the new energy industry need to accelerate the standardization research on the control structure of power electronic equipment and the formulation of grid operation-related standards.

Researcher Junjun Zhang from the New Energy Research Center of China Electric Power Research Institute delivered a course titled "Latest Development Trends and Applications of Photovoltaic Energy Storage Grid-Connected Standards in China." Zhang interpreted the relevant standards and technical requirements of energy storage inverters, sparking lively discussions among the attendees.

Professor Hongliang Wang from Hunan University delivered a course on "Topology and First-Level Energy Conversion Technology Research and Trends of Photovoltaic Energy Conversion." Professor Wang reflected on the evolution of basic power electronic topologies and introduced single-phase inverters, three-phase inverters, isolated DC/DC converters, and multilevel rectifiers in the context of energy conversion.

Professor Mingyao Ma from Hefei University of Technology delivered a lecture on "Data-Driven Intelligent and Fine Fault Diagnosis Technology for Photovoltaic Power Plants." Professor Ma introduced common faults and maintenance methods in photovoltaic systems and proposed component-level and string-level fault diagnosis based on I-V data. Finally, he introduced string-level fault diagnosis based on time-series data.

Lastly, Professor Xing Zhang from Hefei University of Technology presented a course on "Analysis of Grid Control Schemes for High Penetration Rate New Energy Power Generation." Professor Zhang first explained the research background of grid-connected inverters and then introduced improved active power loop control, grid control based on virtual admittance, DC voltage synchronized grid control, and virtual oscillator grid control, among other control methods for grid-connected inverters. Professor Zhang concluded by pointing out that as the penetration rate of new energy continues to increase, frequency fluctuations will become more prominent, and grid control will play a greater role in gradually increasing the share of new energy.

Through expert lectures and interactive discussions, this training course provided targeted and practical guidance to enhance the participants' analytical and problem-solving abilities in their work.
